JAMAICA, New York (March 11, 2011) – The Islamic Circle of North America called on all people of conscience to demand action from the GOP against hateful remarks made by public officials at an anti-Muslim rally in Orange County, CA.
In a statement, ICNA said:
“On February 13th we witnessed congressional representatives and elected officials participate in a hate rally against the American Muslim community. The GOP has since remained silent on this matter, neither condemning the hate speech nor apologizing to the families who were terrorized by demonstrators at the event.
Join ICNA and our partners for a rally against hate at the Villa Park City Council on Tuesday, March 22 at 6 PM. We invite you to stand in solidarity with the American Muslim community and demand that the City of Villa Park censure Deborah Pauly for her incitement of violence against American Muslims and Congressmen Ed Royce and Gary Miller and Councilman John Anderson apologize for their comments on the Muslim community. We also ask that you call and write the officials responsible for spewing hatred against the American Muslim community and respectfully demand an apology for their remarks. We urge you to demand that the GOP condemn those who spoke at this event and clarify its stance on American Muslims. Now is the time to speak out on behalf of your Muslim neighbors. We must stand up for justice and denounce those who seek to divide our nation along religious lines.

• As Americans we are appalled by your party’s participation in this hate rally and will not support those who seek to alienate an entire faith group.

• The elected officials must apologize to the American Muslim community and families that attended the ICNA Relief fundraising dinner on February 13th.
• In particular, we demand that Villa Park Council Member Deborah Pauly retract her deplorable statements calling for violence against American Muslims.

I would like Ms Pauley to tell me to “Go Home” – I am home. My parents were born and raised in the US and so was I. Also, her comment about ..”I know quite a few Marines who would be happy to send these terrorists to an early meeting in paradise.” that right there is a verbal terrorist threat made by Ms Pauley and she should have been arrested on the spot for that comment alone. She should have a restraining order against her put on by the Muslim Community. Whereas, if she comes within 120 feet of any Muslim, she can be arrested.

You must really have some distorted, perverted outlook.
I am sorry how some of the protesters mishandled the purpose of the protest, and how some were flat out hateful. The protest was supposed to be a protest over the speakers’ hate and own prejudices, yet what has not become the story to the Muslim community, is the hateful speech of the some of these protesters. I do believe that most of the protesters there were protesting the speakers and not Islam as a religion, and that many of the comments have been taken out of context. This only angers the Muslim community further, not just here, but especially abroad. Yes, some of these protesters were very hateful and should be condemned, but others were there for a real cause. I think the majority chanting “go home” were not directed at the American Muslims to go back home as meaning to the middle east, but rather the “go home” was directed at the two speakers to go home. No, they do not belong in America when they support terrorism and spew hate towards non-Muslims. While I commend you to host a charity event to help those in need, I do have to question why any charity, regardless of the religion, would invite speakers who, while have done so good for their own, spew so much hatred against others? While some of the protesters should be ashamed of themselves, the people who invited these publicly known speakers should be very ashamed of themselves as well. Is this really who you want your kids to look up to? Or, do you feel it is okay because these speakers are Anti-semetic, and you condone this, but not when it’s anti-muslim? If you are truly against hate towards any religion or people, not just your own, why invite these speakers in the first place? Please don’t let this point get lost in the whole story.

Michael, you are an embarassment to most of us Americans who are not Muslim either. To the Muslim community, I am sorry for his response filled with hate. I am also sorry for those protesters mishandled the purpose of the protest, and how some were flat out hateful (Michael might have been one of them). Most of the protesters there were protesting the speakers and not Islam as a religion, and that many of the comments have been taken out of context, and a few people said terrible things that were not representative of the majority of people there, or majority of non-Muslims. These excerpts only anger the Muslim community further, not just here, but especially abroad. That is the last thing we need, to create hatred in the Middle East, towards America in general. The Muslim leaders should focus on the majority of Muslims that want to live peaceful lives in America and around the world. By asking the outspoken radicals to speak at your event causes you to lose legitimacy for your cause. One Muslim told me of the quest for vengence against those that support Israel, I have to ask should the American Indian stand up and perform terrorist acts against innocents so they can declare their land back? Or should Russia, or the Armenians, etc. I truly feel for the people of Palestine and I think Israel should not be allowed to expand any further, PERIOD!!!! But let’s start funadamentally helping the people of Palestine with education,etc., and live in peace with all types. Stop promoting terrorism as a way to solve problems. Promote co-existence! Otherwise you are looking at a catastrophic outcome. I also have to ask if everyone is willing to die for their own religion, isn’t that a little selfish, rather than martyrdom – and what God would need his people to die for him? God should want his people to live for him!

Where are your actual facts regarding the statements made by these so called outspoken radicals? Do you call them radicals just because their opinions differ from yours? Do they have to go home because you are afraid of what they have to say? This is America so let them speak out. This doesn’t mean you or I have to agree with all their statements and beliefs. What did these people do that day to harm America? The Muslim Americans are intelligent enough to make their own decisions without some attention grabbing politician like Ms. Pauley spewing hatred and calling all Muslims terrorists. Ms. Pauley does not speak for all residents of Villa Park. I would never vote for her again for any public office. Villa Park is still the Hidden Jewel of Orange County inspite of Ms. Pauley’s actions to tarnish this image. Unfortunately, you can always find a few lumps of coal among the jewels.
