The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has announced a new National Catholic-Muslim Dialogue sponsored by its Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.
In an announcement Monday, the conference said that the committee has co-sponsored three regional dialogues during the past two decades. Bishop Mitchell Rozanski, committee chairman, said the dialogues have led to understanding, collaboration, friendship and trust and that it is time for a national dialogue.
“As the national conversation around Islam grows increasingly fraught, coarse and driven by fear and often willful misinformation, the Catholic Church must help to model real dialogue and good will,” said Rozanski, of Springfield, Massachusetts.
Regional Catholic-Muslim dialogues will continue in the the Mid-Atlantic, with the Islamic Circle of North America; the Midwest, with the Islamic Society of North America; and the West Coast, with the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California and the Islamic Educational Center of Orange County.

as a Muslim and former Christian with some knowledge and past experience in Church culture, how might I contribute to this dialogue? I have heard Muslim scholars fail to address or even understand essential Church issues, much less the subtleties and innuendos of the English language. Does any Muslim scholar understand the impact of “Futurism” on understanding Islam, the war on terror and contemporary interpretations of Bible prophecy?
Nasr, I agree with you BUT.
You are right … when we need to engage Christian scholars, we must have a well informed scholar from our side on the issues you raised. Many among us have this feeling… that has a valid point. I followed that path when I engage them in any debates, conversations.
However, I later learned addressing the church issues, the bible or biblical interpretations is not always necessary when you give Dawa or in such engagements. Infact, you don’t need any book & teachings except the Book of Allaah & the teachings of the prophet. Just deliver our message to them. Don’t need redeliver their message or use it for our Dawa. Thats what Sahabaas did as taught by the prophet. Thank you bro… & may the almighty guide us all!
