—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

NEW YORK, NY (June 19, 2017) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), condemns the murder of Nabra Hassanen this past weekend in Fairfax, Virginia. Our prayers and thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this difficult time.

We call on law enforcement for a speedy investigation of this crime and prosecution to the full extent of the law. ICNA once again expresses its deep concern at the dangerous rise in hate incidents against minorities since the past presidential election.
As anti-Muslim incidents have surged nearly 600% in the previous three years1, we urge politicians to make public statements against the rising hate crimes nationwide and curb the increasing role of fake media in provoking such crimes2.
In these final nights of Ramadan we urge mosque managements across the country to be vigilant and follow the tips on mosque safety by ICNA Council for Social Justice.
