Hartford, CT (October 19, 2015) – Following a nearly decade of annual ICNA national conventions in Hartford, Connecticut, the ICNA North East Region is now organizing a convention at the regional level on October 10-11.
This is the second year of the convention and it is already established as the biggest Muslim community event in the area.
Nearly 3,000 people from Connecticut, Upstate New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and other states attended the 2 day convention at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT. Nearly 200 vendors provided the attendees with a vibrant and bustling bazaar.
Attendees enjoyed programs and presentations by speakers who came from all over the country. While the children had a wonderful time with a Fire brigade demonstration provided by an ICNA volunteer and also lives reptile show apart from many other activities that kept them busy and entertained.
Muslim Children of North America (MCNA) also organized a Quran Competition that was attended by nearly 100 children who one various prizes. “Parents were very happy with the program” said an organizer of the competition. Children also participated in the Seerah Quiz and enjoyed the Camali cartoon character and activities including tote bag creation.
Young Muslims, ICNA’s youth division also conducted youth sessions that include YM speakers as well as others that captivated the youth.
An interfaith workshop included a reverts program for over 100 Muslims who have embraced the Islamic faith.
Waqar Haider, President of ICNA North East Region that organized the convention said “it is a great blessing to see so many attending and enjoying the convention that was organized with our limited regional resources”.
Volunteers came from the Muslim Students Association of the University of Connecticut, Muslim American Society of Connecticut, Muslim Ummah of North America of New York and local Islamic Centers.
