—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—
JAMAICA, New York (March 3, 2010) – In a press release issued today, the Islamic Circle of North America, one of the largest American Muslim organizations, announced the official launch of its social media efforts.
Social networking sites open up numerous opportunities for both individuals and organizations—multiplying the amount of people one can reach on a more consistent basis. Statistics show that MySpace, YouTube and Facebook collectively generate 250 million unique visitors on a monthly basis. As media continues to evolve around us at such a rapid rate, it becomes our responsibility to take advantage of these technological developments.
Dr. Zahid Bukhari, President of the Islamic Circle of North America, discussed the , “We are very grateful to our IT Department and social media team… who’ve enabled ICNA to launch this [social media] presence.”
“We are hoping that [through social media] we will be conveying this message to millions of people [and also] presenting the true picture of Islam. We can face prejudice and bigotry and hate [only by] presenting the message of Islam with our words and deeds. We pray that the image of Islam will be more clarified using the technology of social media.”
Waqas Syed, Director, ICNA IT Department, is enthusiastic about ICNA’s presence on social networking sites, stating, “Insha’Allah I have no doubt that with the talent we have among the youth, our presence in social media will become a valuable tool for American Muslims to promote peace and understanding in our society and fight bias and hatred.”
By carving out a presence in the social media realm, ICNA is optimizing its ability to bring Islam to the masses. As the Prophet (S) stood at the highest peak to proclaim his message, ICNA continues to use the best possible means to present society with a more comprehensive and honest understanding of Islam. This newly created niche in social media networks will, by Allah’s grace, provide us with better opportunities to promote Islam in America.
