NEW YORK, NY (August 14, 2016) – It is with a heavy heart that ICNA mourns the murders of Imam Maulama and Imam Thara in New York City. The rise of gun violence in our nation is incredibly troubling as we continue to come to terms with yet another senseless tragedy.
ICNA calls on law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation, including looking into the possibility of this being a hate crime.
Imams Maulama and Thara represented the best in America, by leading communities and living out the American dream by having both faith and country. This senseless act of violence not only tears two families apart, but throws an entire community into fear and turmoil.

The Janaza of our beloved Imams Maulama Akonjee and Thara Uddin is scheduled for Monday August 15, 2016 at 2:30 PM. The location is Municipal Parking Field 581 Grant Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11208 (Sheridan Avenue to Eldert Lance & Pitkin Ave.). We urge all to attend it. There will be a press conference before the Janaza.
