(NEW YORK, NY, January 3, 2015) – Yesterday evening the American Muslim community lost Dr. Maher Hathout, a visionary leader and thinker.
Dr. Hathout pioneered a number of projects, including the New Horizon School System and the Muslim Public Affairs Council. He coherently articulated the compatibility of being a faithful Muslim and an active American citizen, stressing that Islam was a religion of coexistence and moderation.
He was well-known for his kindness, generosity and compassion. Over the years, he was given a number of awards that recognized his commitment to peacemaking, interfaith relations, and humanity.
“May Allah forgive him, have mercy on him, and bless him with the highest place in Paradise,” said Naeem Baig, the president of the Islamic Circle of North America. “Our prayers are with him and his family and loved ones.”
