—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (February 7, 2012) – ICNA Relief USA is making progress in Birmingham, AL after a series of tornadoes recently tore through the region, destroying homes, cutting power and leaving hundreds injured in its wake.

Working alongside the Birmingham Islamic Society, the North Park Baptist Church, and numerous local and national disaster relief groups, ICNA Relief has provided tarps to cover damaged roofs and protect against expected rainfall. We are assisting affected families in both the response and recovery phases of the disaster, and continuing case management services for those rebuilding their homes after last April’s tornadoes.
The Birmingham Islamic Society, led by Br. Ashfaq Taufique, donated over 2,000 dollars to ICNA Relief’s efforts, making it possible for us to purchase much needed supplies including wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, masks, gloves, mailboxes, plastic storage tubs and other items requested by the affected families. We are honored to be working alongside both Muslims and Christians in meeting the needs of residents, and pray that God gives us success in our efforts.
ICNA Relief is a branch of the Islamic Circle of North America that provides local disaster relief and social services to underserved populations within the United States. Our many projects include women’s housing, hunger prevention, family counseling, medical aid, emergency financial support and funeral and burial assistance.
