—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—
JAMAICA, New York (December 28, 2007) – American Muslims are appalled by the assassination of former prime minister of Pakistan Ms. Benazir Bhutto and the killing of dozens of people in Rawalpindi. We condemn this heinous action and its perpetrators. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, who have persisted through such tragedies time and again.
It is unfortunate and unacceptable that anyone would resort to means of violence in order to affect political change. The extremists are enemies of Islam and humanity. All peace-loving people must unite against them. We pray and hope that the people of Pakistan, a majority Muslim country, observe the Islamic virtue of patience and refrain from rioting and escalating violence. The perpetrators of this attack must be brought to justice in a court of law as soon as possible.
