-—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—-
NEW YORK, NY (Nov. 9, 2016) – The Islamic Circle of North America welcomes the safe, fair, and free election process and thanks the hundreds of non-profits and thousands of activists for ensuring this.
ICNA also congratulates President-elect Donald Trump on his victory and resolves to work with the new administration on various issues facing our nation.
This was an appalling election season that saw Islamophobia, anti-immigrant, sexist, and racist rhetoric become mainstream in the United States. It is now incumbent on President-elect Donald Trump to heal the nation and address the needs of all Americans.
We urge the Muslim community to remain cautious in the coming days after the election by ensuring their personal safety and the security of Muslim places of worship.
We ask that the new administration ensure the safety, security, and freedom of worship of minorities and their places of worship, in particular those who have been threatened.
We also request that the Department of Justice keep a close eye on known hate groups and individuals who are now organized, vocal, and well networked. In the event of any hate crimes, we ask that law enforcement act quickly and decisively.
Furthermore, we would like to express our gratitude to the thousands of Muslim volunteers who campaigned for their candidates and participated vigorously in the One America Voter Registration drive, doubling the number of American Muslim voters.
We would also like to extend a congratulatory greeting to Ilhan Omar for winning a legislatotive seat at Minnesota’s state house of representatives with an overwhelming majority. We also welcome the record number of American Muslims who ran for various offices this election.
We would also like to congratulate Hillary Clinton on running an amazing campaign and for winning the popular vote.
“Oh you who believe! Be standard bearers for Justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, whether it be rich or poor; For Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts, lest you swerve, and if you distort justice or decline to do Justice, verily Allah is well-Acquainted with all that you do.” [Qur’an 4:135]
