ORLANDO — We’ve told you how the Paris attacks led to threats against Muslims nationwide. Here in Central Florida, Muslims are using billboards to sort out the facts from the fiction behind their beliefs.

While driving along I-4 in Orlando, there are new billboards that are sure to catch your eye. On one of them, the words, “Muhammed believed in peace, social justice and women’s rights.” Another reads, “God does not judge by your face or wealth.”
“We just want to send our message out as to what we as Muslims believe and that we are your neighbors,” said Atif Fareed, American Muslim Community Centers Chairman.
Fareed is the chairman of the American Muslim Community Centers, the organization behind the billboards. This year the organization is teaming up with the Islamic Circle of North America. They have posted almost 100 billboards across America during 2015.
There are four billboards in Orlando. Volusia and Seminole counties will soon have billboards. In total, there will be 10 billboards throughout Central Florida.
A phone number is listed on the billboards for people to call to learn more information about the religion. Although some call to argue.
“There will always be haters there always have been haters so we have to continue doing the good work regardless of what events take place,” said Fareed.
However, most people call because of their curiosity. The most common question is Why Islam? Last year, the center averaged about 800 calls a week after billboards were placed in Orlando.
