NEW YORK, NY (Nov. 21, 2018) – Mr. Shamim A. Siddiqi, a well known senior activist-scholar of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) today passed away in New York after being ill for several days. He is survived by his four sons, two daughters and several grand children. He was 90.
Siddiqi was born in India in 1928 and migrated to then East Pakistan in 1950. A graduate of the Dhaka University, in then East Pakistan, he was active in the local Islamic community organizations until he migrated to the USA in 1976.
Siddiqi joined ICNA soon after moving to the USA but became active in 1995 when he was appointed the Chairman of its Dawah (Islamic outreach) and Publication Departments and later as its National Treasurer.
However he always remained focus on developing the personality of a da’ee (those who engage in dawah). He founded “The Forum for Islamic Work” in 1977 with some dedicated da’ees. He constantly reminded ICNA’s members of ICNA’s top priority of dawah. He authored 13 books and several articles in the field of dawah. He designed a complete dawah training course and maintained a website for all his work DawahInAmericas.com.
He also translated one of the most outstanding book on Hadith “Zad-e-Rah” into English which was published by ICNA. He also conducted study circles for those who embraced Islam. One of his famous students at these circles was the renowned Muslim Scholar Imam Siraj Wahhaj. His funeral prayers were perfromed today in Long Island, New York.
