HOUSTON, Texas (November 15, 2005)- The ICNA Houston chapter conducts a monthly WhyIslam Program in which we hold a sensitivity training class for the Houston Police Department giving them an eight hour course on Islam and Muslims.
We have established a command control center for Hurricane Katrina Relief.  It is situated in a Days Inn motel where we are offering assistance such as counseling, assistance applying for FEMA and Red Cross benefits, and three meals per day free of charge.  Rides also arranged for the evacuees so that they can receive medical attention, pickup prescriptions, etc.
The MGAs in Houston also participated in a coalition established by the Houston area Muslims, in which we fed the evacuees staying at the George R. Brown Convention Center.  The cost of this event was $125,000, which was paid for by the Muslim community of Houston.
We have held several fundraisers in Houston for the earthquake victims in Pakistan and have raised over $100,000 for ICNA Relief, Alhamdulillah.
