The Bronx Catastrophe With all sadness ICNA mourns the loss of the 17 lives that perished in the Bronx fire. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and especially to the people of Gambia from where most of the victims originated. We cannot say how painful it is to learn that eight of the seventeen that perished in the fire were children. We also pray for the speedy recovery of those who are hospitalized. May Allah SWT help the survivors to put back their lives together in a better way. ICNA has been on the ground from the very beginning providing relief and comfort and is still continuing to do so. We ask Allah SWT to write those who died among the martyrs. In an authentic Hadith the Prophet (May peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Martyrdom is seven things besides being killed for the sake of Allah. The one who dies of the plague is a martyr, the one who drowns is a martyr, the one who dies of pleurisy is a martyr, the one who dies of a stomach disease is a martyr, the one who is burned to death is a martyr, the one who dies beneath a collapsed building is a martyr, and the woman who dies in pregnancy is a martyr.” (Abu Dawood) We hope that such incidents do not happen again and those responsible must be held to account for poor building maintenance. Statement from the Islamic Circle of North America. ICNA is greatly disturbed by the hostage situation at the Synagogue of Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas. We have learned that the situation is resolved by the law enforcement agencies and all the hostages are released safely. As a faith-based representative Islamic organization, ICNA strongly reaffirms that Islam never condones such a crime – it is morally, religiously and ethically unacceptable. We stand together with the Jewish community to combat such acts of terror that discriminate against color, race or religion. Unfortunately, we are at a time when our national discourse has become extremely polarized. MAS – ICNA Convention 2021 The Islamic Circle of North America congratulates the Muslim American Society (MAS) on a successful convention in Chicago. It has been two years since our conventions had to be put on hold due to the pandemic and for the safety of our attendees. To bring the convention back within these difficult circumstances while being mindful of social distancing, masking, and even going as far as having COVID testing available on the premises is no small feat. ICNA recognizes and lauds the hard work of the organizers and their foresight. The three day convention was centered around programming that was truly necessary during this time, with a strong focus on the mental health of the Muslim community. Sessions filled with Qur’anic recitation, lessons from the life of the Prophets عليهم السلام and poignant Islamic reminders were a hallmark of this convention. Prominent Islamic Scholar Maulana Yusuf Islahi Passes Away Today is a day of extreme sadness and loss for the Muslim Ummah. The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) sadly announces the passing away of Maulana Yusuf Islahi from this world today. “To Allah we belong and to Him shall we return”We ask Allah to forgive him, have immense mercy upon him and to grant him Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah bless him with the company of the righteous, martyrs and the Prophets. May Allah accept all of his good deeds and make his lifelong work towards the Deen of Allah SWT a Sadaqah Jaariyah for him. Maulana Yusuf Islahi was a man of wisdom who paved the path to Jannah for hundreds and thousands across the globe.إنّا لله وإنّا إليه راجعونHe was born on 9th July, 1932 in the Khyber Region in Atock, Pakistan. Early in his life, his parents sent him to Bareily, India to study the Islamic Sciences. He was educated in Islamic Studies initially from Mazaherul `Uloom, Saharanpur District and completed his Higher studies and Fazeelat from Madarsatul-Islah, Sarai Mir. During this time, he also memorized the Qur’an and also learnt Tajweed.Maulana Yusuf spent four years under the guidance of Maulana Akhtar Ahsan Islahi and received Sanad Fazilat with distinction. He authored and published more than 60 books on various aspects of Islam. Among them are notable works, such as: Aadab e Zindagi (Etiquettes of Life in Islam), Asan Fiqh (Everyday Fiqh), Quraani Taleemat, Tafhimul Hadith, Guldasta-e-Hadith, Islami Muashrah, Husne Muashrat, Dai -e-Azam, Roshan Sitare and others. Many of his books are translated and published in English, Hindi and other languages. He became a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at the age of 25 years and served the organization in various key posts. He was a member of the Markazi Majlis Shura (Central Advisory Committee) for the last five terms. Maulana Islahi visited the US on a regular basis to give lectures and advance the Da`wah work in this part of the world. He was a notable speaker and an integral part of ICNA’s National Conventions. The entire Ummah alongside the membership of ICNA has lost a leader, mentor, murrabi and a visionary scholar. An uncountable number of Muslims and Islamic Centers across the world benefited from his knowledge and experience. Maulana Islahi was a very humble man, and a scholar with a very comprehensive understanding of the Qur’an and Hadith. Indeed, his struggle against the oppression and injustice of Indian fascist government will not be forgotten as the quest for freedom continues. Death of Br. Sohaib Sultan —FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE— NEW YORK, NY (April 17, 2021) – It is with profound sadness that the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) learns about the death of Br Sohaib Sultan. He passed peacefully on Friday the 4th day in the Blessed Month of Ramadhan after battling rare cancer. He left behind his father Dr. Talat Sultan, his mother, his sister his wife, and his child, and the whole ICNA family. ICNA extends its deepest sympathy to Dr. Sultan and the entire family during this time. Our prayers and thoughts are with them. No doubt, the death of Br. Sohaib would have a profound and long-lasting impact on his family, relatives, friends and the community. Beyond this sorrow, we believe that everyone who enters this world must also exit as Allah SWT says: Every soul will have a taste of death. At the same time, we also believe that it is only with the decree of Allah SWT that one lives or dies as He SWT is The Muh’yee (Giver of life) and Mumeet (Causer of death). Thus, there is no such thing as an untimely death. As death comes to a family member or a dear one, we are required to have patience and trust in Allah SWT and proclaim: “Innaa lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji’oon (Verily to Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return). True Believers are given high honor when calamity befalls as they remain steadfast. Rasoolullah (SAS) said: “How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affair is all good, and this applies to no one except the believer. If something good happens to him, he gives thanks and that is good for him, and if something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience, and that is good for him.” Losing a child, the rewards are great. Al-Tirmidhi narrated that Abu Sinaan said: I buried my son Sinaan and Abu Talhah al-Khoolaani was sitting at the graveside. When I wanted to go out he took my hand and said: “Shall I not give you some glad tidings, O Abu Sinaan?” I said, “Yes.” He said, “Al-Dahhaak ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Arzab narrated to me from Abu Moosa al-Ash’ari that the Messenger of Allaah (SAS) said: “When a person’s child dies, Allaah says to His angels, ‘You have taken the child of My slave.’ They say, ‘Yes.’ He says, ‘You have taken the apple of his eye.’ They say, ‘Yes.’ He says, ‘What did My slave say?’ They say, ‘He praised you and said “Innaa lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji’oon (Verily to Allaah we belong and unto Him is our return).’ Allaah says, ‘Build for My slave a house in Paradise and call it the house of praise.’” (Classed as hasan) We ask Allah SWT to accept all the good work of Br. Sohaib and grant him His Mercy and Forgiveness. May Allah SWT forgive him for all his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdous. We ask Allah SWT to grant patience to the entire family of Br.
