On Monday, May 25, thousands watched in horror as Houston native George Floyd’s took his last struggled breaths while his life was taken without any cause or concern by an officer of the Minneapolis Police Department.

In light of this, ICNA CSJ conducted a webinar to look at the structured racism that is apparent in America today:

ICNA CSJ started a petition for the sademanding justice for the murder of George Floyd and calling for the police officers involved to be put to trial and charged with murder. The petition will be sent to Minneapolis mayor Jason Frey as well as DA Mike Freeman: https://icnacsj.org/justiceforfloyd/
In Houston, Texas, ICNA CSJ-TX also joined Black Lives Matter in a rally at Discovery Green for this.

ICNA CSJ issued a statement saying it is “deeply saddened by and strongly condemns the murder of George Floyd by four Minneapolis police officers. This shows yet another display of police brutality where an unarmed African American has lost their life. The officers have since been fired from their jobs.

The death of George Floyd proves that systemic structured racism and oppression of African Americans is still prevalent in America today. One of the reasons we still hear of news like this is because of the lack of accountability and responsibility that police have in America for such actions. The lack of justice in these police brutality killings and murder cases permit more and more to occur. ICNA CSJ believes these officers should be put to trial to the fullest extent of the law, just as any other citizen would have been.
ICNA CSJ-TX said “Floyd’s death serves as a stark reminder that we are still living in dark times of racism, inequality, and injustice.”
