SACRAMENTO, CA (July 27, 2020) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Sacramento Chapter launched a campaign ‘Islam prohibits Racism & Islamic Teaching related to Pandemics’ to address the problem of systemic racism within the society and to demonstrate Islam guidelines during pandemics.
The 5-week campaign designed to address the causes and solutions to systemic racism in the U.S. and to demonstrate the guidelines that Islam lays out during a pandemic event and to show our support to the front line responders.
The campaign seeks to highlight
• A multi-dimensional approach by the Muslims in the U.S. to provide solutions against racism.
• The Islamic approach in dealing with a pandemic outbreak.
• Support for the healthcare professional & any essential works who are on the front lines of this struggle.
“Islam strongly believes in treating another with respect, dignity, and honor. The quote from the Prophet on this topic of equality dates back to almost 1450 years ago but is so applicable to where we are today. It saddens us greatly to see how far back in time we have gone through as a country,” said Ijaz Arif, President, ICNA Sacramento. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), 1400 years ago, taught the basic methods of dealing with a pandemic event: personal hygiene and containment. These are the very same rules that WHO and government offices around the world are asking people to abide by.
In reflection of this two-part campaign, Islam strongly advocates that “Saving one life equals saving the entire Mankind” (Quran 5:32)
